Linking Lives Aberdeen works to reduce loneliness and social isolation by pairing up volunteers with elderly people who would benefit from a chat. Project coordinator Olushola Ajide has been running the service since last February and knows how difficult the festive period can be – even before coronavirus restricted time with loved ones. He said: “For those receiving phone calls it’s been great. They’re appreciative of the fact they feel helped and less lonely. They look forward to the call – it helps their mental well being.”

The Press and Journal - 26 December 2020

Aberdeen Linking Lives, our befriending service that tackles loneliness and social isolation is a finalist at the Celebrate Aberdeen Awards under Community Impact. Since our launch in 2019, we’ve delivered over 19,000 hours of befriending. But what we offer is far more than time, it’s presence, consistency, and care. One service user recently told us, “I really appreciate your call. You’re the first person I’ve spoken to all week.”
